Wikileaks owner and operator Julian Assange has sparked a LOT of controversy in recent times. Wikileaks is a “non-profit media organization dedicated to bringing important news and information to the public. We provide an innovative, secure and anonymous way for independent sources around the world to leak information to our journalists. We publish material of ethical, political and historical significance while keeping the identity of our sources anonymous, thus providing a universal way for the revealing of suppressed and censored injustices.”
Wikileaks is a huge tool for a journalist. It gives raw material away from the most secretive of places. The biggest thing the website has done was leaked a huge amount of information from the United States government. This leak had information on the relationships between The United States of America and many other countries across the globe. This information was put out unprocessed giving the good with the bad. This was good for everyone else and not so good for the US. Information about the US soldiers was located in the leak. This made many many people very angry. It meant that the enemies of United States had access to this information as well.
Those who leaked it pleaded freedom of press as their cover. They thought that it was their duty to make any information available. There are many questions about journalistic ethics that surround this case. Was what they did right? Should they continue to leak information like this? It is hard to say.
